Bolivian dancers perform in ceremony
Milan, August 6 – Bolivia’s national day was celebrated with a range of music and dance at the Expo world’s fair in Milan on Thursday.
The ceremony, which also marked the 190th anniversary of Bolivia’s independence, involved around 350 Bolivian dancers who live in Italy. They performed many national dances, including Andean dances in traditional woolen costumes, despite the heat.
“Our country is experiencing a political, economic and cultural revolution, and like other musicians and artists, we want to tell the story of this process,” they said.
Bolivian duo Negro y Blanco also performed their music during a concert in the Expo auditorium after a flag-raising ceremony.
“We want to express the thousands of colours of Bolivia with our music,” said Christian Alexandro Benítez Ugarteche and Mario Luís Ramírez Ballivián from Negro y Blanco.
